Local Area

As a starting point for taking in the delights of the Costa Almeria, Vera Beach Club cannot be beaten. Fortunate enough to be surrounded by long sweeps of sandy beach, championship standard golf, camera-ready Andalusian villages and historic sites – this part of southern Spain may not be as renowned as the Costa del Sol, but it’s just as rich in activity and culture. Easily the warmest and least dry spot in Iberia, the Costa Almeria also throws up some quirky attributes such as desert Western film sets, desert golf courses and caravans of camels. Be sure to speak to the reception and activities coordinator at the resort to make the best of a holiday in this wonderful region.

Given the incredible weather, it’s the great outdoors that provides the forum for some fabulous family days out. No holiday would be complete without a day’s adventure and adrenalin at an aquapark and Vera Beach Club can boast Parque Acuatico Vera on its doorstep. For true adventurers, caving and potholing are on offer at the famous ‘Cuevas de Almanzora’ less than 20 minutes drive inland or head south to the Cabo de Gata-Nijar Natural Park which covers mountain and marine, lava flows and salt flats and teems with wonderful bird populations. Meanwhile nearby Garrucha and Mojacar have their own Spanish charm with big city Almeria providing all the shopping and culture anyone could need.

With the setting for Europe’s only desert as a clue, the Costa Almeria is renowned for being both warm and particularly dry – very little rain will fall on the holiday parade. Certainly high season can nudge the mercury as high as the 30s so make the most of Vera Beach Club’s cooling swimming pool and the refreshing Mediterranean just two minutes walk from the resort. As evening falls on days of up to 12 hours of sunshine, cooling breezes will roll in allowing for comfortable al-fresco dining and a relaxing night’s sleep. Spring and autumn are wonderful seasons to try Costa Almeria as clear blue skies are the norm with temperatures still hovering in the 20s.
