Mojacar Pueblo
Urban myth has it that Walt Disney was born in Mojacar Pueblo although there is no proof, what is true however is that this town is postcard-perfection and a delight to explore. White cubed houses cling to lush mountainous hillside, the streets are lined with bars and restaurants and the winding streets are filled with the sight and scent of floral blooms; whilst the Plaza Nueva makes for a very attractive centrepiece commanding incredible countryside and coastal views. For the best viewpoint in town head for the Mirador Castillo, the highest spot of Mojacar Pueblo.

Almeria City
With Moorish origins Almeria has both an imposing Alcazaba, the second largest Moslem fortress in Andalucia after Granada’s Alhambra and a fine Cathedral that perhapsmoreresembles a fortress than a church.Worth a visit also is the archaeological museum and the kilometres of underground tunnels which were created during the Civil War to protect the people from constant attack, they certainly make for a quirky day out. History aside, Almeria is a shopper’s paradise of boutiques and high street chains as well as being a superb city for dining on local and international cuisine.

Cuevas de Almanzora
One of Almeria’s oldest towns, Cuevas de Almanzora gets its name from the artificial caves in the nearby hills that used to house the silver miners of the 19th century. Silver brought wealth and visitors can admire some grand old mining baron homes, stunning baroque-style churches and the beautiful Convent of San Antonio – oh and those quirky cave dwellings perfect for a spot of climbing, trekking or potholing.

Cabo de Gata-Nijar
This National Park is a near-untouched coastal paradise and designated UNESCO biosphere reserve with a volcanic moonlike quality. Journeying through untouched bays, cliffs, swamps, marshland and a dry arid interior, Cabo de Gata-Nijar is home to more than 1,000 species of plant and 1,100 of fauna – the majority of which are birds including pink flamingo and purple heron.
